I got a set of WeatherTech !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! for Father’s Day. I loved the look of them and the function. I could leave my windows cracked and not worry about Kentucky’s infamous sporadic downpours in the middle of the hot summer days.
But, the rubber weatherstripping around the window had to be pushed out a little bit to accommodate the visors. And, my OCD couldn’t handle it. I just knew that seal would be damaged someday or permanently misshapen. Sigh. I fretted and worried and obsessed until I finally ripped the damn things off and returned them.
OCD blows.

I don’t know how to say this, so here goes: your next car should NOT be new :)

Don’t I know it. Never again. I’ve caused myself so much worry over this stupid thing. Every little scratch, ding, or other imperfection has been a nightmare. It’s even nerve wracking to park the damn thing because I don’t trust people not to ding me with their doors.
Driving wifey’s CX-5 is actually refreshing.

I got my 3 new. I fretted over the first scratches and dings. Now I’m just “well that sucks” and move on. I went through a car wash today for the first time in forever. We’re in a drought/water restriction so I can’t wash myself. Days and days of rain. Days and days of driving on unpaved, muddy driveways. I forgot how nice the color actually is

I hear that. I can never get my bumper covers replaced or even professionally repainted because some parking-by-Braille asshole will invariably come along and chip/scuff the paint right down to the underlying black plastic again.

Drive it somewhere you and wife have wanted to go. Put some miles on it. Lets see , Start Friday night you have 48 hours to go as far east or west or north or south as you can and return back to home. 48 minus 18 hours for sleep and breakfast and dinner = 15 hours per day. For me and zapS .sM, Primm Nevada is a good destination.

I feel the same about my car. But the problem with my car is it draws attention.
A purple Hellcat. Is it bad I carry armor all cleaning wipes to wipe off bird crap ASAP. If the weather says hail is possible, it hides inside.
I wipe peoples finger prints off. When i first got it, I had it cut and buffed to fix any orange peel. I am SUPER anal and OCD about it.
If its dirty it gets cleaned, by hand. Not trying that bullshit scratch o matic auto wash.

What about those stick on window vents? I use them on my work trucks and with a little lacquer thinner and goo gone the glue residue disappears.

What you don’t know is that your son, Cameron, has your car on a shaky jack with the wheels spinning in reverse right now trying to take off the miles.
Sleep tight!

Could you do a rinseless wash?

This is why one leases cars. Treat it poorly, it’s only going to be with you for 3 years.

Not sure how that works

Can fill up a bucket or 2(!) in your house and then wash your car with a rinseless wash like Optimum No Rinse. Not sure what the actual restrictions are when in a period of drought so it may not work in your scenario.

Honestly, not sure. Right now we’re restricted to yard watering based on the last digit of your address (ex odd numbers mon, wed, fri; evens tues, thurs, sat) before a certain time in the morning. No car washing except at car wash businesses.
But, someone has to snitch on you or just get busted by a compliance officer driving by

I have looked at some of the stick-on ones but I was worried about what the 3M tape/adhesive would do to the car long term.

If my work trucks are any indication, absolutely nothing.
I cut the visor off then deal with the tape/glue afterwards.
After sitting outside all the time, rain, snow and whatever else. They are fine.
I had to buy them because Ram and their infinite wisdom makes the windows have a safety thing where they stop if they run into something. The window channel ones dont work.
Plus the stick on ones are cheaper. No paint issues, no problems at all. Only problem is if you fuck up install they stay fucked up.
Two people is best. Each person hold 1 end line it up with the window and stick it on.
If install is a little messed up they’ll wobble a little at highway speeds.

I have them on the crv. They are tight at first but they got better.

I admire your dedication and care. But one day someone will ding it with a door and you’ll never find out who it was. And it will kill you.
Having a flawless car is the surest path to self loathing

Just have it painted and fixed, and it solves it all.

In theory. In practice you might be looking at $1000 per incident. You might be looking at an expensive repair that’s never quite perfect. It will never be new again.

Yea but minor scratches can be buffed up, paintless dent repair is about 20 a dent up to a quarter.
Stuff that requires a body shop, well id be leveraging on professional relationships to help. My business is with car dealers, so im sure if i asked, theyd just say bring it by one day. Same with PDR. Glass too.
Only one person I trust with a buffer and he’d do it for me no problem.
So i can be a little extra anal and get away a little cheaper than most. My dealer friends would just say its theres, get it taken care of and say I owe them what it cost.
Which is surprisingly affordable. They’ll buy stuff that needs a little time in the shop and say it’ll be 12ooish bucks. Reskining doors, quarter panel dents that need metal work to fix, and just act like its minor. Thats serious money for a regular person, but a dealer who uses them all the time, like 80% off.

Sounds like you’ve got it made :)
